Cosy and Comforting: A Festive Winter Break at CTBR

When you think of a cosy winter getaway, what do you see? A Christmas tree with twinkling lights; a fire in the hearth; luxurious blankets and pillows; you’ll find all this and more when you vacation with us this festive season. If you need any more reasons to visit us during the colder months, we’ve put together a list of all the cosy trimmings you’ll get to experience at our beautiful properties, whether that’s in the quaint harbour village of Craster, Northumberland or the idyllic countryside of Oughtershaw, Yorkshire.

All is Calm, All is Bright

A festive staycation just wouldn’t be complete without a Christmas tree, would it? Don’t worry, at Catch the Breeze Retreats we always deck the halls with a sparkling Christmas tree. After a day of taking in the scenic winter scenery, there’s nothing quite like coming home to a decorated tree, the fairy lights twinkling away, creating the perfect atmosphere of calm and relaxation. And the great thing about holidaying at Christmas is you don’t have to put the decorations away! Meaning more time to spend with your friends and family.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Why venture out at all when you have the softest, cosiest furnishings to snuggle up with? All our properties are adorned with the exquisite craftsmanship of Melin Tregwynt, a Welsh wool mill based on the coast of Pembrokeshire. With nearly 200 years of expertise, the traditional skill of making woollen fabric has been preserved, meaning we get to experience the artistry of Melin Tregwynt still today. From cushions to blankets, you’ll feel right at home with the addition of these soft furnishings.

’Twas the Night Before Christmas

“When all through the house not a creature was stirring…” And this will be true when you rest your head on our feather-soft pillows and drift away on our spacious and comfy beds. It’s not always easy to sleep in an unfamiliar bed when you go on holiday, but thanks to our luxurious, softer-than-clouds bed linen, you’ll have a restful slumber every night.

Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire

Although we don’t have open fires at our properties, most of our homes have a log burner! Small yet mighty, a log burner gets just as warm and cosy as a regular heath, so get into your pyjamas, grab a Melin Tregwynt blanket and sit in front of the fire for a picture-perfect moment.

Later We’ll Have Some Pumpkin Pie

But wait; your picture-perfect scene wouldn’t be complete without a hot chocolate! Our kitchens have state of the art appliances, making it quick and easy to make a simple hot chocolate or an extravagant meal with all the trimmings. Christmas is as much about food as it is about presents and festive cheer, and there’s nothing cosier than a home-cooked meal. So, if you enjoy cooking for others, you’ll be in for a treat when you step into one of our kitchens.

O Star of Wonder, Star of Night

You’re warm and fed, what’s next on the cosy winter agenda? How about some star gazing? With little light pollution in Craster and Skipton, on a clear night, you’ll be able to see a tapestry of shining stars right from your front door, making the magic of Christmas feel all the more real. If you’re able to peel yourself away from the warmth of the log burner, Craster has some nearby Dark Skies accredited areas, where the stars shine even brighter.

A Cosy Little Christmas

All our properties have their own cosy charm in the winter, but if we had to pick a standout, it has to be Craster Reach, a quaint cottage with a lot of character. If you really want to feel wrapped up in your own little world, this is the property for you.

All We Want for Christmas…

…is Tughall Mill and the Reading Rooms to open! Well, we won’t have to wait much longer; after much anticipation and planning, both properties are set to open in April 2025. So, why not beat the crowds and start thinking about your cosy CTBR Christmas now. You can book Tughall Mill, the Reading Rooms, and all our other properties for Christmas 2025 and 2026 now.
