What our guests say

A very comfortable stay in a stunning location. The Coach House was in excellent condition and very tastefully furnished. The surrounding gardens were serene, ample, beautiful and well maintained. Used as a base for many walks and climbs in the Snowdonia area.

We have visited Oughtershaw Hall, at various times of the year, at least five times for weekends and for stays of a week. Why do we keep going back? Quite simply because the Hall ticks all of the boxes that our group of sixteen needs.

Mr Judge

An amazing house with the most superb facilities. We booked the house to accommodate our now very large close family to celebrate our Golden Wedding. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect location and young and old made full use of the fabulous pool and sauna. With an age range of 86 years to 5 months its a big ask to find the right place to suit everyone but we certainly managed it.

Mrs Hopwood-Casson

Eleven members of the family spent a week for some big birthdays in this lovely hall, where I stayed for 2 weeks in 1952. Memories of a very happy holiday many years ago were not disabused by a return visit, not just because it now has electricity and hot water! The hall is as magnificent as ever, but the big difference is that it has been extensively but tastefully modernised inside and most of the old features have been retrained. There are several large rooms and a massive well fitted kitchen. All eight bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. Four are ensuite and the bathrooms are large. The large terrace is excellent for eating outside with views down to the beck. The garden is long and slopes down to the beck, but croquet is playable if not up to Hurlingham standards. Its a great place for walks and wildlife. The heated indoor pool was much used by young and old. Ben, the house manager is very helpful in explaining everything. and helping with problems. It is simply a wonderful place and I really cannot fault it.

Staying at Middlerigg exceeded all expectations in every way. Newly refurbished and luxuriously fitted out, the property is an extremely high end home from home. Our holiday consisted of dining and lazing around on the patio with it's wonderful views of Craster Harbour and Dunstanburgh Castle to trips to Alnwick Castle, Seahouses for a boat trip to the Farne Islands and the beautiful Bamburgh and its lovely castle. Highly recommend the Jolly Fisherman next door and also The Joiners Arms at Newton by the Sea. Also not forgetting the delicious Craster kippers! We've already booked again for next year!!
