The motherly arms of Craster harbour’s two whinstone piers hold a protective embrace. The resulting small cove shelters from the wild North Sea. It has welcomed Craster’s fishermen and their cobles for generations. Ramshackle stacks of lobster pots mirror the ragged silhouette of tumbledown Dunstanbugh Castle in the distance. Plucky oystercatchers peep support for their industrious colleagues, frantically strutting and prodding in the mud. The orange of their elongated beaks a close match for Middlerigg’s pantile roof that sits in contrast above its dark grey stone walls. Proudly, the house looks down at the boats resting at jaunty angles below, each one decorated with ropes strewn with oversized colourful plastic baubles. If Craster is the harbour, then the harbour is Middlerigg.

A second visit to this beautiful house did not fail to disappoint! The grandchildren had spoken of nothing else for weeks before we arrived. The swimming pool is such a hot - parents dragged along to supervise three times a day! Two of the youngest overcame their apprehension and achieved success swimming unaided. Great country for the triathletes, great walks, great river for messing about in - it really is a wonderful location. The house itself is so well appointed - everything you need for a great relaxing week. Ben most welcoming and able to help with any queries. All in all just a great place for the gathering of the clan!

An amazing stay at an amazing house.

We had the chance for a big group of friends and family to holiday together in a beautiful location. The house itself is reason enough to go but with mountains and seaside at close hand a truly unforgettable time was had by all.

Another delightful stay

As usual everything was perfect. Stunning sunrises, a wonderful panorama of the sea and dolphins cruising past on cue, all viewed in exceptional comfort. Not to mention the walks to Low Newton for lunch at the Ship Inn, a trip to Ingram Valley and Linhope Spout as well as a circular walk on the Rothbury Terraces. A perfect stay

We had the perfect stay, the property was exceptionally well equipped and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The views from the bedroom windows were breathtaking and we enjoyed watching the sunsets each night. The early morning were so tranquil and the front garden/terrace was perfect for a morning cuppa and catching the early sunshine. The washer/dryer was also a godsend after a long day at the beach. We're already planning when we can next return!

Beautiful Craster

Our stay at Middlerigg exceeded expectation. What a beautiful property with exceptional views across to Dunstanburgh Castle. Such a great place to base yourself for exploring the area. The property was cosy, comfortable and finished to a high standard. We couldn't be happier watching daily life in the harbour and the waves crashing against the rocks. We loved it so much we have booked to come back next year.
