As the ice and frost of Winter begins to thaw, the cupids are getting ready in preparation for Valentine’s Day. Love is certainly in the air this year and what better way to celebrate than having a delicious, romantic meal at a cosy restaurant while on your couples getaway with us here at Catch the Breeze Retreats.

Whether you are staying with us in Northumberland, Yorkshire, or Snowdonia, there are a plethora of cosy restaurants for you and your partner to enjoy together. Here are six of our favourite romantic, cosy restaurants that we always recommend to our guests looking to have a memorable and special experience.

Northumberland

1. The Treehouse Alnwick

The first cosy restaurant on our list is a real showstopper and is sure to have you both saying “wow” before you have even stepped foot inside. The Treehouse Restaurant can be found in beautiful Alnwick Gardens just a short 15 minutedrive away from our Northumberland properties in Craster. What makes this an especially cosy restaurant perfect for Valentine’s Day is just as the name suggests; it is set in a larger than life treehouse which makes for a magical experience. Decorated with an abundance of twinkling fairy lights and tables adorned with flowers and foliage, The Treehouse Restaurant is certainly a nostalgic yet refined location for your Valentine’s Day escape.

And you will be happy to hear that the menu and food is just as good as the atmosphere and aesthetic. Serving a delectable range of dishes, from roasted cod loin and 12 hour braised beef bourguignon to mushroom and tarragon gateau, there is something for everyone at The Treehouse Restaurant.

2. The Jolly Fisherman

Or maybe your Valentine is not the only thing that has captured your heart on your Northumberland retreat. The quaint fishing village of Craster where our Northumberland properties are located is the perfect spot for your romantic getaway with its generational businesses, centuries old harbour and simple way of life. So, if you fancy staying close to home while in Craster, The Jolly Fisherman is a must visit cosy restaurant for an intimate and tasty meal this Valentine’s Day.

The Jolly Fisherman is a favourite amongst the Catch the Breeze retreats team as this award-winning gastro pub serves the best and freshets catches of the day, caught right off the coast of Craster harbour. They do say seafood is an aphrodisiac, and with such a wide array of fish available, from oysters and mussels to crab, squid and haddock, you are always truly spoilt for choice at The Jolly Fisherman. And what makes it a particularly cosy restaurant is the joy of watching the fiery sun set over the tranquil harbour, it is a great way to end any romantic dinner date.

The Yorkshire Dales

3. The Blue Bell Inn

The third cosy restaurant on our list sees us move from the coastline to the countryside as we enter The Yorkshire Dales where our Yorkshire properties are based in the village of Buckden.

The Blue Bell Inn is a mere 10 minute drive away in Kettlewell and is the perfect location for couples looking to have a hiking holiday with the Great Whernside starting point being not too far away. After your hike with the most extraordinary views, you are going to need a cosy restaurant to rest up in, and The Blue Bell Inn is the place to be.

With a true home away from home atmosphere, The Blue Bell Inn provides a warm and ambient mood, ideal for a hearty, home-cooked meal from Kettlewell’s award-winning chef, Michael Pighills. Their rustic and delicious food is sure to warm both your stomach and your heart this Valentine’s Day, so be sure to visit them after your hiking expedition!

4. Grassington House Outdoor

It is not only classic, hearty pubs that can be considered as cosy restaurants, a luxurious dining experience can be just as warm and inviting, especially during the amorous period of Valentine’s Day.

Our fourth recommendation comes from Grassington House Outdoor which is owned by award-winning chef, John Rudden. John is originally from Skipton, so he is all about investing in the community and utilising local businesses in his gourmet dishes. Therefore, you will always be sure to have an authentic and locally sourced meal when you visit Grassington House Outdoor, and John has the skills and expertise to make any dish a work of art, making for a memorable dining experience.

The setting of Grassington House is also a sight to behold; a restored Georgian house, it is full of character and decadence, the perfect location for a cosy restaurant serving such luxuriously prepared dishes.

Snowdonia

5. Y Sospan

Now we move from the countryside to the mountain ranges as we enter Snowdonia where our Welsh property, Tan Llan & The Coach House, can be found. This next cosy restaurant will take you back to 1606 when it was first built, an amazing sight for anyone, but especially those couples who enjoy historical sites.

Y Sospan is a short five minute drive away from Tan Llan & The Coach House and can be found in the heart of the little village of Dolgellau. This restaurant is the true definition of “cosy” with its crackling log fire, original wooden beams and stone floors, the best place to have your idyllic meal for two.

But it is not just the history written on the walls (quite literally) that makes Y Sospan such a cosy restaurant to dine in. Whether you want a relaxed lunch in the café, a personalised, home-cooked buffet or a seasonally inspired evening meal, Y Sospan can cater to you and your Valentine’s needs. So, why not visit this marvellous site for a romantic trip through time?

6. George III

Our sixth and final cosy restaurant is also a mere five minute drive from our Welsh property and is in the perfect location for outdoorsy couples. If you are a couple who enjoys the simpler things, such as long walks, bike rides and taking in the sights, the George III pub will make for the finest Valentine’s Day date.

After an enjoyable day together, relax, put your feet up and indulge in the seasonally prepared menu that the George III has to offer its guests. From their famous better-than-home-cooked Sunday lunches to smoked salmon pappardelle, pan roasted cod and luxury nut roasts, the George III truly does it all.

And of course, the homely, rustic décor and beautiful lake and mountain views make a very romantic and cosy restaurant experience, so after a day out in the outdoors, take yourself inside and bask in the warmth of the George III.

There you have it, those were our six cosy restaurants to visit this Valentine’s Day; whether you are staying with us in Northumberland, Yorkshire, or Snowdonia, we are sure that the cosy restaurants on this list will make for an unforgettable experience.
