Catching the Summer Breeze 2023
As we wave goodbye to summer 2023, we can reflect on what an exciting time it has been at Catch the Breeze Retreats. From our very own house manager, Ben, continuing with the building of the scenic Oughtershaw Hall river walk, to the opening of The Reading Rooms; we have been working hard this summer to make sure that our guests build unforgettable experiences and memories to last a lifetime.
The Reading Rooms
Spring brought the opening of our newest cottage, The Reading Rooms, so that the perfect summer’s day could be spent wandering the babbling brook, picnicking in the luscious greenery, and cosying up in the beautiful interior when the weather is not on our side! We have been so excited to welcome visitors to experience the historic beauty of this property and the tranquil surroundings of the sprawling Yorkshire Dales, so we were over the moon to hear what our first guests had to say:
“The cottage was just lovely, as is always the case with your properties. Well-equipped and a walker’s dream. It felt like a home from home and a perfect location for a true Dales experience!”

Oughtershaw Hall
As we have hinted to already, our fantastic house manager, Ben, has been working tremendously hard over the summer on building the beautiful 1km river walk at our luxurious country manor, Oughtershaw Hall. The building of the walk has been a long time in the making, but patience is a virtue that will truly be worth it once you can take the perfectly picturesque stroll along the river to explore the natural beauty that rural Yorkshire has to offer, without even leaving the grounds. We cannot wait to share the magic that will be waiting right on your doorstep when you stay at Oughtershaw Hall.

Tan Llan & The Coach House
We were pleased to welcome Emily from @greatbritishdogwalks and her dog, Murph, over the summer to Tan Llan & The Coach House, which is one of our dog-friendly properties nestled in the heart of Snowdonia. Emily has created the perfect itinerary for other guests staying at Tan Llan & Coach House. She recommends after exploring the “beautifully decorated rooms and stunning views” of the property setting off to find the beauty of rural Snowdonia (which we absolutely adore) and ventured to the “beautiful seaside town of Barmouth” just a 15-minute drive from the property. The charming grounds of Tan Llan & The Coach House were put to fantastic use by cooking up a mouthwatering barbecue in the setting sun to round off a day of exploring. We are delighted that Emily and Murph could enjoy the mesmerising Tan Llan & Coach House in all its glory, brimming with beautiful views, delicious food and everlasting memories.

Driftwood & Harbourway
If you are after a dog-friendly property to cater for the whole party but Snowdonia is out of reach, look no further than our traditional and charming Driftwood and Harbourway cottages that are tucked away in the quaint quay of Craster, Northumberland. Both properties had successful re-openings, and we have been delighted to welcome guests through the pine doors to start summer the right way. Do not just take our word for it, have a look at what our lovely guests have to say about the former-fisherman cottages!
Driftwood: “An absolutely lovely cottage. It’s been beautifully decorated and so well-equipped.”
Harbourway: “Had a wonderful stay. Really well-equipped, comfortable cottage in a beautiful position in Craster. Northumberland’s very lovely, peaceful and very dog friendly. We will be back!”
