At Catch the Breeze Retreats, we’re bringing the beauty and tranquility of the Yorkshire Dales right to your doorstep with our brand-new river walk at the magnificent Oughtershaw Hall

Over the past couple of years, you may have seen updates from us sharing glimpses and sneak peeks of our exciting river walk – a restoration project on the grounds of Oughtershaw Hall that our House Manager, Ben Hart, has been tirelessly bringing to life. Now, with the project nearly complete, Ben has taken us on a video tour of the 1km river walk, sharing the journey of its creation and offering a true taste of the lush scenery that awaits you. Keep reading (and watching) to hear from Ben, see some thrilling clips of what you can expect during your stay at Oughtershaw Hall, and discover some fascinating slices of history intertwined along the way.

Meet Ben! As House Manager, he maintains the upkeep of the house and the grounds as well as other projects at the property, such as the exciting tree project involving our 40-acre field.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that Ben has brought the Yorkshire Dales landscape to your doorstep! You can view the stunning walk from the terrace of Oughtershaw Hall – watch the video to see for yourself.

We can confirm that a lot of work and love has gone into the restoration of the river walk. Now, let us begin the walk along the path and down the stairs from Oughtershaw Hall to the river, where Ben will explain a little more about how he has built it, and how it has been restored.

The beautiful scenery that awaits you cannot be understated. Towering trees, the soothing stream of the river and an array of natural wildlife – keep watching to carry on your journey through the walk.

Picture this; you have woken up on a crisp autumnal morning and wander a couple of minutes down the steps, crossing the handcrafted bridge to sit on the bench amongst the woodland. The calming sounds of the water are the perfect way to start your day.

Autumn definitely calls for a firepit, and we’ve got you covered with our new river walk. Hear more about Ben’s plans for your perfect autumnal evening.

As we come to the end of our river walk, Ben has a couple more exciting plans in store for you, especially if you are a fan of board games!

Again, we must thank Ben for his hard work, effort and determination that has truly brought the river walk to life. At Catch the Breeze Retreats, we always have you, our guests, at the forefront of our mind; how we can enhance your experience to create the perfect staycation from morning to night.
