The Old Watermill

Just along the coast from beautiful Bamburgh and fabled Lindisfarne, this landmark watermill has been part of Northumbrian history since medieval times - and it has a new lease of life as our latest, loveliest, most luxurious coastal retreat. Built on the lands of the Earls of Northumberland not long after the Domesday Book, for many years supplied grain to the monks of Fame and the nearby fishing village of Beadnell. It continued as a watermill right through to the 20th century. There's a thousand-year story to explore at Tughall Mill, and this is your chance to write your very own chapter.

Middlerigg

The motherly arms of Craster harbour’s two whinstone piers hold a protective embrace. The resulting small cove shelters from the wild North Sea. It has welcomed Craster’s fishermen and their cobles for generations. Ramshackle stacks of lobster pots mirror the ragged silhouette of tumbledown Dunstanbugh Castle in the distance. Plucky oystercatchers peep support for their industrious colleagues, frantically strutting and prodding in the mud. The orange of their elongated beaks a close match for Middlerigg’s pantile roof that sits in contrast above its dark grey stone walls. Proudly, the house looks down at the boats resting at jaunty angles below, each one decorated with ropes strewn with oversized colourful plastic baubles. If Craster is the harbour, then the harbour is Middlerigg.

Situated at the end of a terrace of 19th century cottages in postcard-pretty Craster, close enough to the harbour wall to hear the squaw of herring gulls and the slap of the sea, Harbourway is a haven of seaside calm – and one of our larger Craster properties. Stoutly built from local whinstone, topped by slate, with double-fronted bay windows looking down onto the harbour, the cottage has been sensitively modernised while retaining true to its 19th century heritage.

The exterior is classic Craster: hand-shaped local stone , little windows and a slate-tiled roof, with a sweet front garden accessed via its own white picket gate. There’s also a decked seating area at the front where you can sit and enjoy the sun and watch the daily goings-on down in the harbour. Inside, Driftwood is packed with period charm – from the original fireplace to the cosy bedrooms, it makes the perfect cosy bolthole for your Northumberland adventures.

Hired Rock lobster a few times now and one of there's other houses in Craster numerous times now. Always the best kept property's everything provided in kitchen and bedrooms heating and always plenty hot water. Spotlessly clean as usual. Easy toybook with and any extra can be provided. High chairs etc great views and well kept gardens.
